NEWS SNIPPETS
There was never any doubt that, as soon as Nokia announced its comeback in a(semi) big way, the spotlights of the industry and cellphone fans would be swinging (at least nominally) Finland's  way every now and then to see what's cooking in the N pot. GSM Arena surreptitiously got slipped some presidential tax returns, sorry, we mean a Nokia 6, and they gave the device, which is not more than a mid-midrange model, even though it's Nokia's top offering at the moment, a once or twice over.
The current state of (un)affairs in US politics must make rich pickings for spy novel writers. Accusations and counter-accusations fly to and fro of Russian complicity in US affairs, and as we reported in our previous issue, two agents of Russia's intelligence agency have been charged with being rather naughty on the espionage front, and will definitely have to stand in the corner if US authorities catch up with them. Security agencies are reporting very unusual cellphone activity in Washington D.C. which raises more than suspicions that the men in dark glasses and long cloaks are hovering about.
was a newcomer to the music streaming business and did not hold much leverage over record companies. This meant that Spotify often had to accept whatever deals they could get.  The boot, as the proverb says, is now on the other foot, though. With 50 million subscribers, Spotify has become an important opinion maker, and actually has the power to dictate the Top 40 to a certain extent. The labels now have to eat a bit of humble pie as Spotify renegotiates royalty deals. Music fans who have long since forgotten what it's like to go out and buy a CD or, who remembers, an LP or a tape, are reveling in the easy access to top-tier music.
Seeing as  we have fans of streaming music on our radar, it is as good a time as any to feature this tongue-in-cheek  story which, though parody, is not too far from the truth, actually. It reports on a teenager that was found in devastated state after having been forced to survive without wifi access for six hours, which was regarded as clear evidence of the human spirit's ability to overcome adversity.  Parents the world over will nod knowingly.

We hide some very pertinent news fairly deep in our literary masterpiece, if for nothing else but to gage the attention span of our readers. Samsung's keenly-awaited Galaxy S8 is slated for release on 29 March, and with a screen rumoured to stretch to 5.8 inches, it is set to take up some of the slack created by the incendiary Note 7. Let's take a look at some of the pertinent (carefully leaked) rumours, which reportedly include the ability to capture videos at a mind-bending 1 000 fps.

Many of us get so sedentary that we regard it as a major physical achievement if we make it to the fridge and back without collapsing in a panting heap. Our Winner of the Week is made of altogether sterner stuff. Chau Smith is seventy years old, and between January 25-31 of this year, she ran seven marathons on seven continents in seven days. This, as you can imagine, required almost superhuman endurance and perseverance, not to mention the precise logistics required to make it all happen. Suddenly, finding parking  200 m from the shopping mall does not seem such a great achievement anymore.
